Elon Homes for Children,
Providing A Safe Passage Through Adolescence

Residential Program
Who do we serve?
We serve children ages 11 to 18. These children are typically in the custody of the Department of Social Services. Placement at Elon is usually needed because of abuse, neglect or abandonment; which usually affects the child with emotional, behavioral and academic problems.

How do we attend the needs of these children?
Children in our care receive a nurturing, stable and healing environment that caters to their individual needs and personal growth.

Through help from outside agencies, such as Teen Health, we are able to attend to the children's medical needs as well as educate them how to promote a healthy lifestyle. Individual and group counseling needs are provided by area agencies, such as Kids Central, CMC Behavioral Health Center and the Family Center. Responsible behavior, personal growth and cooperation are fostered through a level system of work programs, chores, service learning projects and church attendance.

These children learn life-long skills through educational groups that teach educational planning, hygiene, job seeking/maintenance skills, economics and literacy.

The children that come into care often lack a sound academic foundation. Our agency has a charter school. The charter school is dedicated to providing and instilling hope and a desire to learn, while offering students the opportunity to improve their basic skills and advance academically.
