Admissions
to Residential Programs

Students may be admitted to Elon Homes for Children directly by referral from Department of Social Services, Area Program Mental Health Agencies, juvenile court counselors, outpatient therapists, hospitals, or other treatment centers. Children that are referred must be in the custody of the Department of Social Services or have a Voluntary Placement Agreement, which is obtained through the local DSS.

To make a referral:

  • Call the admissions office and inform them that you are referring a child to Elon Homes for Children.

  • Please have student information available including name, parent or name, custody, legal status, previous placements/hospitalizations, presenting issues and/or diagnosis, and date for requested admission. Additional information may be necessary.

  • To further expedite the referral, information may be faxed to 704-369-2560.

  • Due to the physical activity that is integral to the program, Elon Homes for Children can only accept ambulatory students. Students with an IQ less than 65, actively psychotic behaviors, fire-starting or violent tendencies are not eligible for admission.

Plan to come and visit and tour the facilities and meet the Elon Homes for Children staff. For an appointment or any other inquiries, call the campus.

Fees for all services and length of treatment stay will be agreed upon at the time of admission. A plan of care agreement and funding contract must be signed by all parties prior to admission.
Elon Homes for Children serves all children regardless of race, sex, ethnicity or gender.
