Although Jackie had attended preschool, when he entered kindergarten at Francis Elementary School, he wasn't well prepared. He was unable to sing the alphabet song, identify letters, identify colors or count from 1 to 10 in order. Unfortunately this situation exists for many youngsters entering school, particularly those coming from disadvantaged circumstances like Jackie’s. Helping children like Jackie is why Elon Homes and Schools for Children created Francis Elementary school—with small class sizes, top-rate teachers and specialized attention. Research shows that early educational intervention leads to greater academic success and opportunities in life. Jackie’s story illustrates this well. Since attending Francis Elementary, Jackie has been able to receive the services he needs to help him focus his attention on learning. He can now sing the alphabet song correctly, identify all letters of the alphabet, identify all colors, count in order up to 100, and he is in the process of learning to read! Jackie says, "I've learned a lot at school. I'm so proud I'm learning to read, and I've learned my numbers." That’s the kind of success story we like to count on at Francis Elementary and Elon Homes and Schools for Children.
